President Tsai meets with charity to promote international development cooperation
President Tsai meets with Lions Club president Brian Sheehan.

President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) met with Lions Club International president Brian Sheehan on Wednesday. She lauded the charity’s response to humanitarian crises and support to people in need.

The Lions Club International is a civilian service organization of more than 1.4 million members serving in more than 200 countries across the globe. The Taiwan chapter of the club was chartered in 1953.

Tsai says the group plays a pivotal role in global development assistance. She commends the Taiwan chapter for successfully raising more than US$40 million as part of a special campaign from the international organization. That’s the largest contribution from any single country’s chapter in the world.

Tsai adds that Taiwan is an emerging provider of international aid for a more sustainable future. Earlier this month, Taiwan signed an agreement with the American government’s overseas development agency to deepen their cooperation in humanitarian assistance.
