The US China Commission suggests creating a committee to address Chinese hostility towards Taiwan. The commission's annual report was released on Tuesday. The commission is a congressional body tasked with advising Congress on the relationship between Washington and Beijing.
The report says Chinese officials target specific Taiwanese export sectors that will inflict damage to the country's economy. Those include targeted import bans on certain Taiwanese fruits and farmed fish produced in areas supportive of Taiwan's ruling party.
The commission recommends the United States respond by creating a government committee to respond to Chinese coercion. This committee would determine sanctions and other economic punishments in response to China's malicious attacks.
The report also suggests that Chinese officials use their influence over international organizations to spread misleading information regarding Taiwan's international status. This prevents Taiwan from sharing information regarding public health and marine research at global forums.
