Apple Inc. announced that it has plans to reduce its reliance on Asia's supply chain and purchase chips from a factory in Arizona instead. A recent Bloomberg News report indicates that the factory is likely Taiwan's chipmaker giant TSMC.

According to the report, TSMC is building a new factory in Arizona costing US$12 billion. The announcement was made in 2020 that the factory will produce 5nm chips and is expected to start operations in 2024. A few days ago, other US reports also disclosed that TSMC will continue to expand and build a second factory.

The report pointed out that Apple is trying to restructure its current supply chain by focusing more on local production. The company is hoping to move away from reliance on Asia due to disrupted shipments affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
