The Foreign Ministry on Wednesday expressed thanks to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for his support for Taiwan.
Sunak said the policy towards Taiwan is clear, that the status quo should not be changed unilaterally and that the UK stands ready to support Taiwan.
The ministry stated that Taiwan and the UK share the same core values of democracy, freedom, the rule of law and human rights. It said that Taiwan will continue to work with like-minded countries to protect security in the Taiwan Strait.
Sunak’s remarks were made at the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia. The meeting is a gathering of the world’s 20 major economies that include leaders from the United States and China.
