A Russian-made missile struck Poland and killed two people on Tuesday. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry condemned the act on Wednesday and urged an immediate halt to military actions.

The missile landed outside a Polish village about six kilometers west of the Ukrainian border. The incident happened as Russia launched its biggest wave of missile attacks on Ukraine in over a month, targeting many areas in the west of the country near the Polish border.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou (歐江安) says the missile attacks are causing innocent people to lose their lives. She says Taiwan condemns Russia’s illegal attacks on Ukraine and urges the quick restoration of peace talks.

The Foreign Ministry says as a democratic country, Taiwan firmly upholds the universal values of democracy, freedom, the rule of law and human rights. The ministry says Taiwan respects Ukraine’s fight for sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also says Taiwan will continue to work closely with the United States, Europe and other like-minded countries to take appropriate actions to help Ukraine end the war and restore peace.
