Taiwan's highway authority says the number of electrical vehicles will continue to increase in the near future. That comes as part of Taiwan's net zero carbon emission plan to convert diesel-powered buses, cars, and motorcycles into electric vehicles.
Transport official Lin Fu-shan (林福山) says the Transport Ministry has already allocated enough funds to purchase enough electric buses to exceed this year's goal. Lin adds the government is also increasing incentives for the public to purchase their own electric vehicles.
Lin says purchasing electric cars comes with added tax benefits. Those who purchase electrical motorcycles and scooters will also receive government subsidies. Lin says the government has allocated enough funding to subsidize 500 thousand electric motorcycle and scooter purchases before 2026.
Meanwhile, the legislature also recently passed an amendment to the parking ordinances. The changes will require public parking lots to have designated charging facilities and parking spaces for electric vehicles.
