Taiwan’s health authorities are reminding citizens residing abroad that their domestic health insurance coverage expires after two years of absence.
Last month, Taiwan removed the COVID-19 quarantine requirement for arriving passengers. Many Taiwanese citizens residing abroad for a long time may now return for a visit after over two years of pandemic restrictions.
Health authorities said on Friday that Taiwan’s universal health coverage is valid for two years from the date of last departure. Taiwanese nationals who return to Taiwan after an absence of more than two years will need to reapply for coverage under the program.
Lin Chun-mei (林純美), director of the National Health Insurance Administration’s Southern Division, says the government invites people to use the National Health Insurance Express application to check their latest records. The app provides secure access to information about users’ insurance, vaccinations, treatments, and more.
