The giant panda Tuantuan suffered four seizures Thursday afternoon and evening. Taipei Zoo’s veterinary team immediately intervened and the panda is now under observation.
Caretakers report that Tuantuan suffered a series of short seizures on Thursday. Veterinarians quickly gave the panda antiepileptic medication to relieve the symptoms. Between periods of rest, Tuantuan tried to walk, but showed weakness in his hind limbs.
Due to the seizures’ frequency, the zoo decided to give Tuantuan intravenous medication.
The caretakers and veterinarians say that the giant panda is not in good spirits. They report that he is not active, not interested in food, and rarely responds to caretakers. As Tuantuan’s condition remains unstable, the medical team will continue to monitor the panda closely.
