Taiwan's Ocean Affairs Council announced on Friday that Nauru and Taiwan have established joint maritime patrol operating procedures that will promote more friendly exchanges. Taiwan has diplomatic relations with Nauru.

The council says it hopes that the two countries can work together to safeguard Nauru's marine ecology by enhancing maritime law enforcement in the Pacific Ocean.  The council welcomes representatives from Nauru to observe exercises in Taiwan waters. Representatives from Taiwan would also be making visits to Nauru for more in-person interactions.

Meanwhile, Nauruan President Russ Joseph Kun thanked Taiwan for its long-time assistance. That included a recent donation of two patrol boats to Nauru earlier this year. Kun said Taiwan can further assist Nauru by developing ocean-related infrastructure and training programs.
