Team Taiwan secured a record-breaking nine medals: five gold and four bronze at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships held in Thailand from November 29 to December 4.
Taiwan badminton player Yi Chung-hsiang (易仲祥) defeated his opponent from India in the U-15 finals, securing Taiwan’s first gold medal. The Chinese Taipei Badminton Association says the team’s five gold and four bronze triumph also makes Taiwan the top country in total medal count among the participating 15 countries.
The association says they have been hosting more junior tournaments in recent years to give young players more experience and exposure.
Taiwan is competing under the name Chinese Taipei as it does in the Olympics.
