Foreign travelers to pay for own COVID treatment in 2023: CDC

Foreign travelers will need to pay for COVID treatment beginning January 1, 2023. That was the word from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) on Monday. All COVID-related treatment fees have been covered by the government despite health insurance status as of 2022.

Taiwan has been seeing steady visitor growth as the country eases its quarantine rules and will remove the weekly cap of arriving passengers on December 10. According to the latest update from the CDC, COVID treatment fees for individuals with Taiwan citizenship regardless of health insurance status, foreigners with Taiwan health insurance, and foreigners employed in Taiwan would still be covered by the government.

The CDC suggests visitors secure travel health insurance before departure and apply COVID preventative measures such as constant hand-washing throughout their travels.

Taiwan just lifted its outdoor mask mandate, but masks are still required on public transport and indoor spaces in Taiwan.
