President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) thanked the Biden administration for valuing Taiwan’s military defense needs. Tsai shared the sentiment in a meeting with visiting US foreign policy officials on Monday. The delegation is headed by the CEO of the National Committee on American Foreign Policy (NCAFP) Susan Elliott.

Tsai said Biden kept his promise to keep Taiwan safe by selling more arms to Taiwan. She added the US’s announcement in September to sell more weapons shows that the US values Taiwan’s national security.

Tsai said Taiwan and the US have worked on pandemic-related challenges and counterterrorism work. Tsai added the new trade initiative between Taiwan and the US will also strengthen this relationship.

Tsai said the US-Taiwan relationship serves as the foundation for stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Meanwhile, Tsai pointed out the US and French President recently gave a joint statement on peace in the Taiwan Strait. She said she hopes to work with other countries to build a safer and more resilient supply chain.
