President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) says Taiwan looks forward to further collaboration with Poland as democratic countries. Tsai was speaking while receiving the Polish-Taiwanese Parliamentarian Group on Tuesday. The group is led by the group’s chairman Waldemar Andzel and has eight cross-party parliament members of Poland.
Tsai said Poland and Taiwan understand the importance of upholding democracy and international collaboration as both countries have seen authoritarian pasts. She said Poland has been a huge support when Taiwan is faced with oppression from China.
Tsai thanked Poland’s donation of 400,000 COVID vaccines during the height of the pandemic, and the recent signing of a taxation agreement between the two countries.
Poland is the current chair-in-office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). Tsai also says Taiwan will continue its support of Ukraine in light of the Russia-Ukraine war and looks forward to assisting Ukraine’s rebuilding efforts.
Meanwhile, Andzel says he looks forward to more collaboration, which includes Taiwan setting up semiconductor factories in Poland and direct flights between the two countries.
