Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou (歐江安) says members of the Parliament of Australia arrived for their regular visit to Taiwan on Sunday. Ou says Taiwan welcomes all international officials and visitors to Taiwan with open arms without giving details about the visit.
Ou says Taiwan is Australia’s seventh largest trade partner and both countries play significant roles in maintaining safety and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The ministry expressed gratitude to Australia’s continued support in maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait and looks forward to further collaboration as democratic nations.
Ou emphasized that the two countries are close, sharing the same values of freedom and democracy. Australia was one of 18 target countries in Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy aimed to enhance economic and cultural ties with Taiwan.
Taiwan has also seen visits from top officials worldwide recently, including Germany, the UK, and Poland.
