The United States has offered to sell to Taiwan 100 of its most advanced Patriot air defense missiles along with related equipment for US$882 million. That’s according to a recent Bloomberg News report.
The report indicated that the proposal is part of an arms deal to Taiwan discussed in 2010. It is not a new arms sale but an enhanced version of an earlier arms package, which was originally valued at US$2.81 billion.
The sale would also include M903 Launcher modification kits, training missile rounds, and software upgrades to accommodate the new missiles.
According to the US State Department, the plan is expected to be included in the official record of the proceedings and debates of the US Congress on Tuesday. The sale program will be given a period of 30 days for review.
