A Dutch global supplier of chipmaking machinery ASML has plans to bring the European supply chain to Taiwan. It also plans to invest more in Taiwan and build a new factory in New Taipei City to expand its production capacity. Those are the words from Vice Premier Shen Jong-chin (沈榮津) on Tuesday.

The Dutch company’s new plant is expected to start construction in July 2023 and will be ASML’s largest investment in Taiwan. Shen says ASML’s chief operations officer was in Taiwan in November to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) to thank the Taiwan government for supporting ASML’s presence in Asia.

ASML is one of the biggest wafer foundry equipment suppliers to Taiwanese manufacturers, including TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker. The Dutch company already has five factories in Taiwan employing more than 4,500 people.
