Masks will no longer be required for large outdoor events by the end of this year. That’s the word from top epidemic official Victor Wang (王必勝) on Thursday.

Wang says current local COVID-19 case numbers are continuing to decline, so officials can now safely remove the mask mandate for large outdoor events.

He says most people are still opting to wear masks even after the loosening of outdoor mask rules on December 1st, which has contributed to the continued decrease in case numbers.

Wang also recommends the public continue to wear a mask and maintain social distance in all crowded areas, even when outdoors.

Authorities say regulations will be relaxed as COVID-19 case numbers decrease.  They will continue to closely monitor the development of the epidemic inside and outside the country and carry out control measures.
