Radio Taiwan International’s (RTI) German service department has received the German-Taiwanese Friendship Award. The German Institute in Taiwan held the award ceremony on Thursday.
The three Taiwanese recipients were RTI’s German program coordinator Chiu Pi-hui (邱璧輝), National Palace Museum researcher Chang Wen-ling (張文玲), and Oma’s restaurant founder Chiu Tai-yu (邱岱玉). They were recognized for their contributions to bilateral relations between Germany and Taiwan.
Chiu Pi-hui graduated from the German Department of Tamkang University and has been working as a journalist since 1987. She writes and produces news content for German-speaking communities around the world to learn about Taiwan. Chiu is frequently invited to give speeches on German-related topics and translate German children's books which have contributed to the promotion of the German-Taiwan relations.
Chang Wen-ling introduces the cultural relics of the Taipei Imperial Palace to German delegations. She often receives foreign guests during weekends.
Chiu Tai-yu opened Oma’s German Delicacies in 2001 which serves quality and innovative cuisine and allows the public to experience German culinary culture.
According to the German Institute in Taiwan, 44 medals have been awarded since 2013.
