Taiwan university presidents discussed the matter of Chinese students studying in Taiwan at an online conference on Tuesday.

Tatung University President Her Ming-guo (何明果) says that studying in Taiwan has historically been a popular choice for many Chinese students. He adds Taiwan's universities have years of experience welcoming them and that it was about time academic exchanges resumed.

President of China University of Technology Tang Yen-po (唐彥博) says he hopes that Taiwan and China's educational institutions will be able to fully resume cooperation.

Former President of Shih Chien University Michael J. K. Chen (陳振貴) says he hopes that study opportunities between Taiwan and China can expand. Currently only students from six provinces and two cities in China can apply to study in Taiwan.  He hopes this will increase as well as options for double degrees across Taiwanese and Chinese institutions.  Chen adds that welcoming more Chinese students is beneficial to helping maintain peace across the Taiwan Strait.

Degree students and research students from China are now permitted to enter Taiwan but professors are still restricted from entering.
