Taiwan follows stricter regulations when exporting to China: Health Minister

Taiwan is made to follow stricter regulations when exporting goods to China. That's the word from the Health Minister Hsueh Jui-yuan (薛瑞元) on Wednesday. Taiwan has seen a series of import bans from China this year, including fish and fruits.

The most recent business affected by the import regulations is Chia Te bakery, famous for its pineapple cakes. The bakery was asked to provide additional information, such as the ratio of ingredients used in their products and production factories' floor plans.

The minister says there is a discrepancy between the rules for Taiwanese and other foreign businesses exporting goods to China. He says that Taiwanese companies are asked to submit the needed forms on paper and are asked to provide more information. Meanwhile, other foreign companies are able to complete the forms online and are not required to give the same kind of supplementary information.

Hsueh says the process creates additional barriers for Taiwanese businesses. He says, however, that the ministry will continue to assist companies in filling out the paperwork. He also encourages entrepreneurs to follow up to date information on China's import regulations.
