Former Polish foreign minister and long term EU lawmaker Anna Fotyga arrived in Taiwan on Thursday. The Foreign Ministry says her visit will strengthen links between Taiwan and the European Union.
Fotyga had previously visited Taiwan in 2017. This visit follows EU Parliament Vice President Nicola Beer’s visit to the country in July.
The Foreign Ministry says Fotyga has been a long-time supporter of democratic Taiwan and has voiced her support for the country in the European Parliament numerous times. The ministry says Fotyga will meet with the Foreign Ministry, Economics Ministry, and EU representative office. She will also attend a banquet hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Tsai Ming-yen (蔡明彥).
The Foreign Ministry says Fotyga’s visit shows support for Taiwan in the face of China’s increasing threats against the country. The ministry says her visit will strengthen cooperation in a variety of fields between Taiwan and the European Union.
