The 7th Netherlands-Taiwan Energy and Innovation Cooperation Meeting was held on Wednesday. The yearly meeting brings Taiwanese and Dutch officials and enterprises involved in green energy to discuss new advances in technology and policy. This year’s meeting focused on offshore wind power, floating solar power, and hydrogen energy infrastructure and applications.

Economics Ministry official Chen Cheng-chi (陳正祺) says Taiwan and the Netherlands are developing new technologies as the world pushes towards achieving net zero emissions. She says Taiwan’s own net zero by 2050 plan uses 12 key strategies, including wind, solar, hydrogen, and other energy infrastructure.

Dutch energy envoy Frederik Wisselink says the offshore wind power talent training program started in 2019 by both nations has been very successful. Many graduates completed their certification this year, which is an important milestone for Taiwan’s green energy transition.

The meeting also discussed the recycling of wind turbine blades and the possibility of combining offshore wind and solar power plants. Taiwan is also planning to send a delegation to the Netherlands next year to deepen cooperation in energy policy and technology.
