The park was opened in 1980 as an industrial center for Taiwan's private tech industry. The brainchild of former Science Minister Shu Shien-siu (徐賢修), the area has been instrumental in Taiwan's economic and industrial development.
Park Director Wang Yung-chuang (王永壯) says today the zone is increasing international cooperation following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite various factors such as inflation, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and worsening U.S.-China relations, the Hsinchu Science Park has done well.
The park is also a key force in local politics. Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke (楊文科) thanked the guests at the celebration for their support during his reelection campaign.
Former United Microelectronics Corporation head John Hsuan (宣明智) says chips are more valuable than oil. He says Taiwan is a country with promise, and that promise lies in the Hsinchu Science Park.
The anniversary event celebrated and reinforced confidence in Taiwan's secure position in the future of technology.
