President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) says she looks forward to future collaborations with Japan on national security, trade and economic matters. Tsai was speaking on Friday while meeting with Japan's representative to Taiwan, Mitsuo Ohashi.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, an organization chaired by Ohashi. Tsai thanks Ohashi for facilitating bilateral agreements between Taiwan and Japan over the years.

Tsai also thanks the Japanese government for supporting Taiwan's participation in global affairs as well as emphasizing the importance of peace across the Taiwan Strait. She says she hopes Japan will continue to support Taiwan's participation in international organizations and trade entities.

Meanwhile, Ohashi says other countries should model themselves after Taiwan and Japan's relations. Taiwan and Japan have supported each other throughout natural disasters and the COVID pandemic. He says world peace would be realized if other countries could model themselves after the Taiwan-Japan friendship.
