The Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau in Taiwan reminds people to filter the increasing amount of disinformation on the internet. The bureau investigated the spread of disinformation throughout October regarding a politician's worsening COVID-19 diagnosis. It said on Friday they found hundreds of thousands of accounts associated with spreading this fake news.
The bureau says disinformation has increased both in quality and quantity. It says this kind of misleading content is getting harder to differentiate, and the disinformation disrupts news on the pandemic, election, politics, and more.
The bureau says they found foreign groups contributing to fake news on the politician. It says the groups wrote controversial topics that led to more people sharing the disinformation.
The bureau says the spread of disinformation is related to national security. It reminds the public to be aware of the information they see online and check for the information's accuracy.
