The Taiwan representative office in New Delhi, India hosted the Taiwan Film Festival 2022 on Thursday. Two films presenting Taiwanese aboriginal themes were screened during the festival, promoting cultural and tourism exchanges between Taiwan and India.

This is the first Taiwan Film Festival since COVID-19 case numbers in India have stabilized. Taiwan representative Baushuan Ger (葛葆萱) introduced "Listen Before You Sing" and "Long Time No Sea," both of which showcase the culture of Taiwan's indigenous people.

Ger says that he hopes Indian people will see Taiwan beyond its role as an economic and technological powerhouse. India recently elected its first female aboriginal president and Taiwan is also experiencing aboriginal resonance.  Ger says this creates an opportunity for further interaction between the two countries.

The movie "Listen Before You Sing" is about tribal elementary students in the Bunun mountains who form a choir in hopes of saving the school from closure. "Long Time No Sea" tells of a Orchid Island Yami boy who devotes himself to traditional dance and performs in Taiwan, surprising his father. Both films showcase the spectacular terrain and diverse aboriginal culture of Taiwan.
