Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) led a delegation to Singapore on Thursday to understand the development of bilingual education and digitization there.

The delegation met with the education ministry, trade and industry ministry, and other government units. It also went to the Information and Communication Media Development Bureau to meet and exchange ideas with Singapore officials from the country. The delegation’s other objective is to apply their learned knowledge to Taiwan.

Ko also went to the Lau Pa Sat hawker center to taste satay, sugar cane juice and other delicacies. He says though some of Taipei's night markets are doing well, most of them are not very clean. He adds that Lau Pa Sat looks cleaner, but Taipei City is doing better than Singapore in terms of environmental protection. Ko says he visited the hawker center to study how Singapore "is packaged."

There are many hawker centers in Singapore that offer a wide variety of authentic Singaporean food, including Hainanese chicken rice, satay, Hokkien noodles and Indian pancakes. They are a gathering place for Singapore's people, reflecting the multi-ethnic community.
