The Taiwan Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Development Association kicked off their international forum in Taipei on Friday. The Forum also has over 260 participants online, including UAS organizations and officials from different countries. They include Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and East Timor.

Association head Chang Yang (張揚) says Taiwan has made great progress in the global wave of unmanned aircraft development and should continue to be an active participant.

Chang says though Taiwan doesn’t have a large domestic market, Taiwan is a leader in the global information and communication field. The association formed an Asia-Pacific alliance in 2017 with the aim to lead the establishment of the industry. This includes manufacturing and flight standards for unmanned aircrafts.

Chang says Taiwan should participate as different countries figure out global regulations for the technology. Unmanned aircrafts have become widely used in military technology in light of the Russia-Ukraine War. They have also gradually been applied in various fields such as construction, entertainment, agriculture, and more.

Chang also points out the rapid growth of the unmanned aircraft industry. The current global market has reached US$30.4 billion this year and is expected to grow exponentially in 2026.
