Taiwan plans to open a representative office in Montreal in order to strengthen relations with Canada. That came from Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou (歐江安) on Tuesday.
Ou says authorities chose to build the newest office in Montreal because it's the second-largest city in Canada. She adds that the International Civil Aviation Organization's headquarters is also located in Montreal.
This is the fourth Taipei Economic and Cultural Office Taiwan has instituted in Canada, with the other offices in Ottawa, Vancouver, and Toronto. Ou says Taiwan hopes the new Montreal office will build more cooperation between the two countries and also help provide better services to Taiwanese citizens abroad.
Ou adds that the Canadian government has said it wants to strengthen its partnerships with Taiwan, especially in terms of science, technology, and innovation. She says Canada wants to work with Taiwan to develop peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
