Taiwanese comic artists and writers took multiple awards at the 16th annual Japan International Manga Awards on Wednesday.
Manga artist Monday Recover (星期一回收日) and screenwriter Chen Chiao-jung (陳巧蓉) won a silver award for their comic “See You There and Us.” The manga tells the beautiful and profound story of a young girl growing up.
Taiwanese comic artist Lai Kai (賴凱) and Yeh Yu-tung (葉羽桐) both won bronze awards for their works “The Justice” and “Cat Swordsman.” This is the third consecutive year that Taiwanese comic artists have won at the Japan International Manga Awards.
Japan’s Foreign Ministry organizes the awards to promote manga culture and to recognize artists who advance cultural exchange through their comics.
A total of 503 entries from 77 countries and regions participated in this year’s competition, with Taiwan topping the list at 83 entries. The gold was awarded to South Korean artist Seong Ryul's work "In Summer." The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in March next year.
