Taiwan will streamline the entry process for migrant domestic workers by opening the “Migrant Workers One-Stop Service Center,” starting from January 1st. Due to administrative and quarantine processes, it currently takes up to a month and half for migrant domestic workers to enter Taiwan and begin working.

Starting from the new year, the workers will be able to begin work without quarantine upon arrival as long as they can pass a daily rapid test. Applications to the five government agencies required to enter as a migrant worker can now be done at one time on the service center’s website.

Upon arriving in Taiwan, the workers undergo a two day workshop, educating them on life in Taiwan and how to deal with issues such as health insurance. They also learn about occupational safety and labor laws to ensure that they understand their rights in Taiwan. Following the workshop, they receive their residence permits and can be taken to their workplaces, which are primarily in the homes of their employers.

There are two service center locations near the airports in Taoyuan and Kaohsiung, which can accommodate 500 and 100 people, respectively. At the moment, there are about 200 migrant domestic workers entering Taiwan each day.
