The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) says transportation links between Taiwan’s outlying islands and China’s Fujian Province will only be opened to residents of Taiwan’s outlying islands. This means that other Taiwanese who are living and working in China cannot transit through the outlying islands on their way home.
The transportation connections between the two areas are known as the “three mini links”. They were suspended when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in February 2020. Recently China has seen a large increase in cases after it relaxed its zero-COVID restrictions, leading Taiwanese officials to be cautious about opening the links.
Head of the Central Epidemic Command Center Wang Pi-sheng says his office will continue to evaluate the possibility of fully reopening the three mini links. At the same time, Wang says the center will adjust preventive measures and vaccination policies if necessary to protect the safety and health of the people.
