A Taiwanese artist will be participating in the 2023 Taiwan-Australia Art Exchange Partnership Program in 2023. Taiwan’s National Culture and Arts Foundation and the Australian Office in Taipei made the announcement on Tuesday. The two countries signed the partnership agreement earlier in June.

New media artist Ciwas Tahos (林安琪), who will travel to Australia for the exchange, is from the Atayal tribe in Taiwan. Ciwas Tahos has a long history of interdisciplinary work in video, performance, installation art, exploring issues of decolonization and gender identity. Through the exchange, Ciwas Tahos hopes to learn more about the creative approaches of curators and artists in Australia. She’s especially interested in how people of the Asian diaspora and local Indigenous artists utilize new media and performance art with digital technology. She is also concerned with the representation of the queer community in the Australian context.

Australian artist Deborah Cheetham will be coming to Taiwan for the exchange. Cheetham is a soprano, composer, and educator from the Yorta Yorta Nation of Australia.

The partnership program aims to support and encourage collaborations between Taiwanese and Australian artists, especially Indigenous artists.
