Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Agency says Taiwan's air quality this year is the best in recent years. The agency says the density of PM2.5 has reached a new low this year. A density of PM2.5 for air pollutants can cause harm in large quantities.
The agency says the air quality for 94% of the days between January to November was rated from average to good. This percentage is the highest in recent years.
Agency official Tsai Meng-yu (蔡孟裕) says Taiwan's air pollution prevention strategy plays a role in the reduced air pollution. Tsai says Taiwan has exceeded its goal of phasing out diesel vehicles and old cars. He adds Taiwan also tripled the amount of pollution-reduction gas boilers.
Tsai adds changes in climate and China's lockdowns and factory shutdowns also contribute to pollution reduction and better air quality. He says the agency will continue to monitor the factors that contribute to air quality for the rest of the year.
