The United States has announced it will purchase sets of advanced artillery fire support systems for Taiwan. That's according to a contract made available on the US federal procurement database in November.
The system uses and integrates multiple sources of data to create a common operational picture for fire support on the battlefield. The network uses computer workstations to process information which is then sent to operational support units.
The procurement contract says the United States will provide 16 of the artillery support systems to Taiwan. The contract also outlined purchases for Ukraine and Latvia. The purchase has been confirmed by the Ukrainian Military Portal and Ukrainian media.
The new procurement comes as the United States has increased efforts to arm Taiwan. Those efforts include US lawmakers approving US$12 billion in grants and loans over the next five years for Taiwan to purchase weapons from the United States.
