It's almost time to welcome in the new year. Cities like Tainan and Kaohsiung are preparing eagerly awaited fireworks shows and concerts for New Year's Eve on Saturday night.
Many people have arrived at the celebration venues days early in order to secure a good viewing spot. Some students in Kaohsiung say they brought rocks and bags to hold down their plastic seat mats before New Year's Eve. One fan says he's especially looking forward to seeing performers like OSN and Accusefive.
There's concern about heavy crowds flooding the light rail and metro stops near the New Year's performances. To control crowds, people will not be able to get on or off trains at the Dream Mall or Kaisyuan Jhonghua Stations after 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Kaohsiung's light rail will close after 1:30 a.m. and the MRT will close after 2 a.m. on Sunday morning. The city's police force says it will implement traffic control in the performance's surrounding area at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
With a night of musical performances and fireworks to look forward to, this New Year's Eve is shaping up to be a night to remember.
