Kinmen’s county government will hold a drill on Wednesday in preparation for reopening transportation links between Taiwan’s outlying islands and China’s Fujian Province. The drill is meant to help keep the COVID-19 pademic at bay and ensure the health of the Taiwanese people during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.

The transportation links, known as the “three mini links”, were suspended when the pandemic broke out in February 2020. Recently China has seen a major spike in cases after it relaxed its zero-COVID restrictions. The outbreak has made Taiwanese officials cautious about resuming the links.

The county government says it will conduct saliva PCR tests on all arrivals in Kinmen. The government also says it has prepared 40 negative pressure hospital rooms and five container structures to be used as isolation housing for COVID patients.

The links are scheduled to re-open from January 7 to February 6 for the Lunar New Year holiday period.
