It's almost the Lunar New Year, and some people are choosing to travel by train to celebrate the occasion with friends and family. The Taiwan Railways Administration has announced they will temporarily stop selling tickets for child-friendly carriages during the new year.
Rail authorities say they have temporarily removed this option in response to anticipated high demand for seats over the bustling holiday season. Tickets around the Lunar New Year's Eve are already starting to sell out.
But some parents complain that traveling with children will be even more difficult as a result. Child-friendly carriages accommodate fewer passengers because they are more spacious and have designated areas for strollers. The colorful carriages also have play areas for children.
One parent says she is worried children might disrupt passengers in regular carriages. She also says children might feel more at ease in child-friendly ones.
The railway responded to some concerns by saying strollers can still be folded and stored in regular carriages. TRA is working with families to ensure the new year does not start off with a bumpy ride.
