An official delegation from the Indian state of Telangana met with Foxconn Chairperson Young Liu (劉揚偉) in Taipei on Wednesday. According to Indian media, the two sides discussed possible future Foxconn investment in the region.
Reports say the Indian delegation was led by Telangana government’s Director of Electronics and Semiconductors Sujai Karampuri. Topics included the Indian state’s efforts to improve its electronics manufacturing ecosystem and workforce.
Foxconn, known in Taiwan as Hon Hai, is one of the world’s biggest contract manufacturers. The company already has an established presence in India. Late last year, Foxconn announced it would increase its Indian subsidiary’s market capitalization by half a billion US dollars.
Market analysts suspect this amount will be used to expand the company’s iPhone 14 production lines in Chennai. Over 90% of Foxconn’s iPhones are assembled in China.
