The Atomic Energy Council Minister Hsieh Hsiao-hsing (謝曉星) was removed from his position on Wednesday after an internal investigation confirmed earlier allegations of sexual misconduct and other inappropriate behavior.

Allegations of Hsieh verbally abusing and making inappropriate physical contact with female employees first surfaced in October last year. The Cabinet's investigation confirmed these allegations and deemed Hsieh unfit for a ministerial position.

Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) says Hsieh violated gender equality policies and negatively impacted the ministry's reputation. Su adds Hsieh betrayed the people's trust.

The Cabinet apologized to all victims and will now send the case to the auditory branch of the government to seek disciplinary measures.

The Cabinet added that all government agencies will need to reevaluate their sexual harassment prevention measures. It says these agencies will need to protect victims and strictly implement gender equality policies in the workplace.
