Taiwan will work on strengthening the safety and elevating the dignity of its police force. That's the word from President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) when she attended the first National Police Agency meeting of the year on Friday.

Tsai also took the time to express her gratitude towards the agency. Tsai thanked a number of high ranking officials that are retiring this year. She also thanked the entire police force for their work this past year.

In particular, she thanked the agency for rescuing Taiwanese people who were victims of human trafficking in Cambodia. She also recognized the agency's work on seizing illegal drugs. Tsai said the agency's anti-drug efforts create a safer environment for Taiwanese people.

The president says she hopes different police departments will continue to cooperate with each other to bust gang rings in Taiwan. In the meantime, the government will work on improving the conditions of police officers in Taiwan. This includes purchasing better equipment and promoting better training and enforcement policies.
