Taiwan's national power provider says it's confident energy supply will not be an issue during the Lunar New Year. That was the word from the Taiwan Power Company spokesperson Wu Chin-chung (吳進忠) on Tuesday.
Taiwan made progress in terms of its renewable energy usage last year, but some are concerned about a potential energy shortage during the holidays, when demand is high. Some media reports say the recent shutdown of a reactor at Taiwan's second nuclear plant and natural gas turbine construction delays may contribute to an energy supply deficiency.
Wu says the company made all the proper adjustments in response to these infrastructure changes. He says wind and solar energy will be sufficient for daytime power demands while hydropower will be sufficient for night-time energy needs.
Wu adds that the company is also working on properly storing energy. Altogether, he says he is confident Taiwan's energy will be sufficient for the Lunar New Year.
