The Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that it is open to reservists enrolling in its intense reservist training. The enrollment is also open to female reservists.
The ministry is conducting two different reservist training programs. One program undergoes two weeks of intensive training twice in eight years. The other program conducts a five-to-seven-day regimen four times in eight years. The military's voluntary training is currently open to 500 male reservists and 200 female reservists.
Major General Yu Wen-cheng (俞文鎮) says the ministry has an incentive in place to encourage reservists to go back for more military drills. Yu says the ministry will give a NT$5,000 (US$165) bonus to those who participate in a fifth round of training after already completing four rounds of mandatory drills in eight years.
Yu says people who want to join the volunteer program can go to the All-Out Defense Mobilization Agency's website to sign up.
