The Economic Ministry says Taiwan’s customs officials need to conduct more stringent inspections to prevent illegal imports from entering the country. The ministry made these comments on Monday, after Taiwanese shoppers discovered Chinese propaganda on imported packages of noodles.

The noodle packaging contains the phrase “You are Chinese and I am too, so after rounding up, you are all mine.” Taiwanese authorities have ordered stores to remove the products from their shelves because they violate packaging and import regulations.

Economic Minister Wang Mei-hua (王美花) said on Tuesday that the noodles may have been shipped under false labeling or smuggled into the country. She says all stores and e-commerce platforms need to remove the products immediately.

The ministry adds that companies who have smuggled illegal products into Taiwan will be prosecuted according to the law.
