The Foreign Ministry says Taiwan will work with India on promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. That statement came during a press conference on Wednesday.
Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) recently attended India's Republic Day celebration hosted by the India Taipei Association on Tuesday. Wu said India is an ideal partner for sustainable economic development in the region. He added that the two countries share a continuously growing relationship.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou (歐江安) says that because Taiwan and India share democratic values, they can both promote freedom in the Indo-Pacific region.
The ministry adds Taiwan and India have a recent history of fruitful partnerships. India is Taiwan's 17th largest trade partner and ranks 14th among the country's export markets. Taiwan has also worked with India on airline service agreements, agricultural partnerships, bilateral trade, as well as investment deals and protections.
The ministry says many Taiwanese youth ambassadors are visiting India for various exchange programs. Ou adds Taiwan-India relationships are important also because India will host the G20 and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summits this year.
