The European Parliament on Wednesday adopted implementation resolutions on two major security policies. The resolutions call on authorities to safeguard Taiwan’s democratic freedoms and support the country’s participation in international organizations.
EU lawmakers adopted resolutions on the annual implementation reports of the union’s foreign and security policies. Both resolutions condemned China's continued military provocations against Taiwan and any unilateral changes in the Taiwan Strait. The resolutions also called on China to stop all acts that endanger regional stability.
The European Parliament also expressed its firm support for the people of Taiwan and called on the EU Executive Committee to establish strategic cooperation with the country. It recognized Taiwan as a valuable economic, scientific, cultural, and political partner.
Taiwan Foreign Ministry Deputy Director Lu Shifan (呂世凡) says the European Parliament’s solidarity is of particular importance in the face of China’s increasing military intimidation.
The Foreign Ministry says 25 friendship resolutions with EU countries have passed in the last two years. But it adds these resolutions are the first to call on the EU Executive Committee to enhance overall cooperation between Taiwan and the EU.
