The auditory branch of the Taiwan government or Control Yuan says the Health Ministry and Legislature need to increase their support towards people with disabilities. Four members of the auditory branch released a report investigating disability resources in Taiwan on Friday.
The auditory branch says the Health Ministry lacks proper statistics on people with severe emotional and physical disabilities. It adds this can result in people with disabilities experiencing more barriers in adjusting to the community.
The branch says they have asked the ministry to include people with emotional disorders in their disabilities services but they have not seen any progress in the last five years. The branch adds current mental health programs are small in scope and lack proper structure.
The report also says the ministry does not receive consistent funding which affects the retention of talented personnel. The branch says the Legislature should look into providing more long-term financial support to the Health Ministry.
The branch also says different ministries should look into cultivating professional development and training rather than merely raising salaries for these individuals. It says proper training will be crucial if social services were to expand in the future.
