During the Lunar New Year holidays, the safety of electricity consumption is especially important when people return to their hometowns. Taiwan's power company Taipower is reminding people who are going away to unplug unnecessary electrical equipment and old appliances in their homes to avoid accidents.
Taipower said that during the Lunar New Year holidays, the overall power system load will be reduced, making the voltage level higher than the usual 110V. That's because of the reduction in industrial electricity consumption and less commercial activities than usual. The state-run power company said it will lower the voltage to maintain voltage stability.
The Energy Bureau also warned to turn off or unplug home appliances if left unattended for a long period of time. The bureau said turning off the power can reduce standby power consumption and therefore prevent electrical fire accidents.
