President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) gave orders to adjust or increase train services to meet the needs of the public so that people can travel home safely. Tsai was speaking on Friday while inspecting the services of the High Speed Rail and Taiwan Railways in the wake of the Chinese New Year holiday.
Friday is the first day of a ten day long Chinese New Year holiday this year. Tsai said every year around this time, people are most concerned about the weather and the traffic. She said it is also the busiest time for the railway companies. She said especially so this year because it is the longest Lunar New Year holiday ever in the history of Taiwan.
The president assured the public that the railway and high speed rail companies have all made detailed plans. The companies are making every effort to run more trains. The Freeway Bureau also announced it will make adjustments to reduce traffic congestion on the highways through high occupancy control.
