Former Vice President Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) was officially sworn in as the new premier by President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Tuesday. Chen says changes will happen during his term and he is already making moves in his first week as the new premier. Brendan Wong has the story.

DPP legislators greet the new Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) outside of the Legislature on Wednesday as he prepares to meet with party caucuses to kick off his term. His visit focused on the tax rebate plans that are still in development.
Chen's meeting with DPP legislators ended with smiles and a group photo, but KMT legislators gave him a less enthusiastic greeting. One lawmaker proposed that Chen increase tax rebates to citizens from NT$6,000 to NT$10,000 since he says he will act differently than the previous premier.
Chen rejected the change because some funds are reserved for underprivileged communities. Instead, he says he will revise tax brackets to rebuild Taiwan in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. He adds he will also work to advance housing justice with measures including financial assistance.
Chen met a total of four political parties on Wednesday. His relations with them may potentially affect his performance for the remainder of his term.
